About Us
theunconnected.org was created to create more equality in the world and help people become more environmental by providing internet connections for people who don't have one, which is 45% of the world's population. Imagine a world where there is no WhatsApp, Instagram, Tiktok or Netflix, wouldn't that be inconvenient? Imagine a world with no Google, no access to all the online information, no online banking or shopping. Think about how you learn in the modern world and how much you need online access and imagine what the impact would be to how you learn if you didn't have that? theunconnected.org is working to change all that.
In practical terms theunconnected.org has been supporting many projects including getting phones and connectivity to girls in the slum area or Mumbai so they can get an education. Helping indigonouse women in Mexico get online to sell their artisan goods and getting UK school children safely online to enable them to continue their studies.
A major focus this year is the situation in Ukraine. We thought, what would be one of the most important things we'd need if we were fleeing Ukraine? A working phone! Over 5 million people have fled from Ukraine but men between 18 - 60 have to stay behind to fight and keep the country going so it's women and children who are leaving. When they cross the border they generally don't know where they're going, where's safe, what they need to do and where to access food and accommodation, an internet connected phone will give them all this information.
